There are a few things we’d like to inform you about in regard to Keosauqua Utilities.  This page explains how utilities work, when garbage pick-up is, and a little about Keosauqua itself.

The City of Keosauqua requires that building permits be approved by the City Council before any construction or improvements are made to a property. Please contact City Hall for a permit or you may download a building permit from the City Resources tab. For any construction, the City of Keosauqua offers tax abatement. Tax Abatement form can be found here.

The City of Keosauqua offers pre-authorized electronic payments of your utility bills from your checking or savings account.  Click here for the ACH Form.

electric, water and sewer service

The water and sewer utilities are provided by the City of Keosauqua. The city purchases its water from Rathbun Regional Water Association. Electric service is provided by Keosauqua Light & Power, $29 base fee, kw usage, & tax where applicable is charged. The meters are read on the 20th of the month and your electric/water/sewer/garbage and storm water bill is on one bill. Bills are issued the 1st of the month and payment is due at City Hall by the 20th of that month. After that date there is a penalty applied at the following rates: Electric: 1.5%; Water/Sewer: 1.0%; and Garbage: 4.45%.

Garbage Service

Garbage service is provided by the City of Keosauqua through Waste Management in Fairfield.  Service/ pickup is every Thursday morning, unless a Holiday is prior to Thursday, then service will run a day late. Please have garbage/recycling set out by 7:00 a.m.

The garbage fee is $25.00 per month. Recycling is also provided in that charge.  There should be a yellow lid recycling tote and a green lid tote for garbage, at the residence. If not, contact City Hall.

The City has a “pay as you throw” policy in that you are allowed 1 green tote can of garbage per week.  Any totes over the limit require you to affix a sticker for each additional bag at a cost of $2.00 per sticker.  These can be purchased at City Hall.  The current Waste Management Schedule is available on the City Resource tab

No yard wastes will be picked up by Waste Management. The City has a dump for yard waste only and any brush, leaves; etc. can be taken there.  Please contact City Hall for directions.

Gas Service

Natural gas service for Keosauqua is provided by Alliant Utilities.  Contact them for service at 1-800-822-4348.

telephone and internet service

Telephone and internet service is provided by Van Buren Telephone located on First Street in Keosauqua.  Contact them for service at 319-293-3187.

dogs and cats

The City of Keosauqua has an ordinance that prohibits dogs and cats from running loose within the city limits.  If your cat or dog is found running loose, it will be impounded and a $25.00 fine will be charged as well as room and board. Certain breeds of dogs will not be allowed in city limits. These breeds are as follows: Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull, American Staffordshire Terrier, Neapolitan Mastiff, French Mastiff, Mastiff, Bullmastiff, Pyrenees Mastiff, and Spanish Mastiff. 

 

The city does not issue permits for animals, however, if your pet causes a nuisance to neighbors, there will be a fine for the offense.
